Matthew J Keener

Principal, Taylor County Middle School

Dear Families and Students,

The season of Thanksgiving has arrived and we do have much to be thankful for in our county. We have continued to work together to provide a quality education to our students in a very different environment, secured devices for every student to use as we continue to navigate COVID, and found new ways to demonstrate learning all while remaining safe and secure in our buildings. Our staff has worked tirelessly to ensure we continue to provide the best so our students have the opportunity to display excellence in and out of the classroom!

Today Governor Justice made adjustments to the school calendar and winter sports. We wanted to make sure all families and students are made aware of those changes as they begin now. Students will now return from Thanksgiving break in full remote learning. November 30th, December 1st and December 2nd will be full remote learning days where students will learn at home. Food service will continue and details on how to participate will be coming out prior to the break. As a reminder, November 23rd, 24th, and 25th are non-traditional instruction days that students are expected to be engaged in learning and our staff will be present to support any questions that may arise. In addition, please note that winter sports are cancelled until January 11th as ordered by the Governor. This means no practices or games can be held until that date. The cancellation at this time goes into effect immediately and impacts youth sports using our facilities as well.

The last area of concern as shared by the Governor is the mask mandate. He is mandating beginning at midnight tonight all public buildings will require all persons to wear masks. While his order states ages 9 and up, we are permitted to continue to have all students be masked while in our buildings and on our buses. This will be enforced with not only our students and staff, but anyone that is entering our buildings. The only time masks are not to used is when students or adults are actively eating or drinking. It is hoped this will continue to stop the spread of COVID among members of our community.

We want to take this time to wish all a very blessed Thanksgiving and wish health and happiness to all!!

Warmest regards,

Christy Miller, Superintendent
