Volunteers Needed - Be the change!
GHS is excited to host Building Hope for the second year. The program is a full day with the freshman class. We need approximately 30 volunteers.
Building Hope utilizes high energy activities to support students, staff and volunteers in catalyzing positive change in the culture of our school.
Activities focus on how our behaviors impact others. The program does more than just teach that bullying is wrong. Building Hope sheds light on the root causes that lead to problematic behavior.

Taylor County Schools are now closed today, Tuesday, January 31st.
This s a message from Taylor County Schools. Today, Tuesday, January 31st, all schools will be operating on a 2 hour delay.
We are excited to announce a new partnership with Sleep Outfitters and Corey Auvil.
To kick off the new partnership, Corey is sponsoring a half-court shot worth $500 of instore credit with no minimum purchase if you make the shot. If you miss, you will still get 2 Tempur Pedic Pillows. He will be at the girl's game on 2/1 and the boy's game on 2/18.

These students have been working hard to prepare for the competition. Thank you to all who are participating and we know you will do great!
GHS Student report cards were distributed today with their final first semester grades.
VARSITY BALL GAME & SENIOR NIGHT INFORMATION:
To provide some clarification regarding Senior Night and the Varsity Ball game, there will not be coronation during halftime. We will be raffling off 50/50 tickets to help raise money for Taylor County charities and will be holding a halftime shooting competition for youth of Taylor County to participate in for $2 to go towards charity. Senior Night will occur before the Varsity game begins.
On February 2nd, GHS Spanish classes will be participating in Celebration Día de la Candelaria "Candlemas".
Candelemas is outside of attending church services, Candelaria is celebrated at home with a big family dinner, usually with tamales. The tradition actually begins a month earlier on Three King's Day when families eat the typical holiday cake called rosca de Reyes, which has a small figurine of baby Jesus baked into the dessert.
Thank you to our Spanish teachers for helping our students learn about the culture and allowing them to have these experiences.
Senora Skaggs will be hosting an informational meeting on Monday, February 6th at 6:00 pm in her classroom. If you are interested in learning more to attend this trip, please register with the QR to attend the meeting.
Healthy Grandfamilies begins February 27th in the Mary Battle Studio. It is open to any grandparents of Taylor County raising one or more grandchildren. Childcare will be provided.
Students wishing to get some community service hours can see Mrs. Shaffer in the main office.
The GHS Blood Drive will be held February 27th from 8 am to 1:30 pm in the Mary Battle Studio
National FFA Week is coming up in February. Be on the lookout for the activities our chapter is doing to celebrate the week!
Our GHS Entertainers have upcoming competitions in the month of February. Please come out and support them as they perform.

Seniors planning to continue your education after high school- you are encouraged to attend our FAFSA Night on 2/6 in the Mary Battle Studio.
Reminder that if you are PROMISE eligible, you MUST fill out the FAFSA as well.
Please bring your iPad to complete the FAFSA and/or PROMISE app and parent/guardian tax information from last year's taxes.
Varsity Ball Week begins on Monday. Here are the spirit week days.
Varsity Ball Game will be held on February 2nd. We will have a shooting competition at halftime and a 50/50 raffle to go to local Taylor County charities and organizations. All money from 50/50 and shooting competition will go directly to the charities. Senior Night will be held at the basketball game that evening and YLA will be hosting a chili cookoff.
We will have a Thuse on Thursday for our students to celebrate our school pride.
Dance will be held on Saturday, February 4th from 8-11 pm. It is $5 for admission and is a semi-formal dance.
We are looking forward to a great week filled with Bearcat Pride for our school and community!
